Hong Kong Noir
has left the building
Streets full of neon signs and bustling night markets filled with people. Dark corners and a mysterious underworld. Romantic stories by Wong Kar-wai and colorful images by Christopher Doyle. These are fond memories of Hong Kong for many. But do they still exist?
The answer is yes—they do exist, but only in our memories. Neon signs are rare, and night markets are slowly disappearing. While dark corners and a mysterious underworld remain unexplored, they are unlikely to be as romantic or colorful as one might expect from the movies
What remains is a feeling of solitude, emptiness, and even sadness.
Hong Kong Noir has left the building, leaving behind its only child: Melancholy.
